As we embark on the journey through June, a month dedicated to celebrating our youth, we also pause to reflect on the evolving narratives surrounding womanhood.
Invisible Day, celebrated annually on July 4, invites us to ponder the idea of disappearing. Have you ever had a day where you just wanted to vanish? There are times when we feel overlooked or invisible, and there are also times when we crave that invisibility. Invisible Day sparks our imagination about what we might do if we could become invisible. Would you eavesdrop on conversations or wander around town unnoticed? Would you use your invisibility for good or for personal gain? This day opens up a world of intriguing possibilities!
The origins of Invisible Day are shrouded in mystery, but the intention behind it seems clear: to remind us to acknowledge those days when we feel exhausted or defeated. Sometimes, we simply don’t feel our best and wish we could vanish. On Invisible Day, you have permission to take a break from your responsibilities. You might take a day off work and indulge in activities that bring you joy, or perhaps you could escape on a short holiday to disconnect from the world for a while.
Invisible Day also highlights the importance of mental health. It recognises that it’s okay to feel down occasionally. In our constantly connected world, hyper-connectivity can paradoxically lead to feelings of loneliness and anxiety. Invisible Day encourages us to take a step back, find some alone time, and recharge.
The PFFSA envisions a South Africa where every woman has access to comprehensive healthcare, empowering her to make informed decisions about her well-being. Let us embrace this month with a spirit of self-empowerment and resilience, encouraging our youth to reject societal norms that seek to confine and define us. Together, let's embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, embracing the diversity of women's experiences. We're excited to share with you the enriching opportunities lined up!
